Directions to Cafe Bakermans

Prenzlauer Berg is full of places to eat and drink and Bakermans stands out by concentrating on the details.  Everything at this corner café is baked on the premises, from the sweet treats to the savoury delights, take your pick! If you are heading for lunch they have a great selection of quiches, salads and soups as well as sandwich rolls and lunch platters. Platters being the operative word as everything is served on a stone slate, a nice touch as it's different from your average plate and feels special.

They use organic ingredients and have good options for vegans too, this info is noted on the menu so you'll know what ingredients are used and what you're exactly going to get.

Breakfast is especially inviting with the bircher muesli or granola and a choice of 3 breakfast platters including yummy cheeses, meats, jams and house baked bread.  Speaking of bread, you can buy loaves here of the freshest yummiest bread this side of Berlin.

OK, now for the cakes - this is serious business. Not only do they have scrummy looking standard cakes like carrot, black forest and strawberry tart in standard cake sizes, but they have individual portions of their signature cheesecake in 3 or 4 flavours and a chocolate cake. Each portion is around 15cm in diameter and it's all for you! Of course you may share this mini cake if you wish, but why would you when Bakermans have gone to all the trouble to make it just for you? And it costs the same as you would pay for a slice of cake at €2.60.

Other amazing treats in the cabinet are large but decadent eclairs, sweet muffins, various types of fresh and flaky croissants, and something special called an Engadiner Nuss Törtchen, which is heaven on your plate, sorry, slate. It looks a bit like a pie, but it's actually a pastry casing filled with gooey, creamy caramel and nut filling. This is the kind of individual treat that you won't find anywhere else in town.

As a traveller to Berlin you will most likely appreciate that Bakermans have tap water available here for free. Minted and lemoned at a self serve station, drink as much as you need. The coffee is good and they have a nice selection of teas available plus freshly squeezed orange juice, which goes nicely with a breakfast platter.

You may notice the office in the corner - This is part of the Bakermans family: Go Jump Skydiving! So if you are seeking a thrill or have just always wanted to ask what it's like, pop your head in and say hi, you might just come out with a ticket under your belt for one hell of a jump.

The prices are pretty good here at Bakermans, especially considering the quality, which for a café in Prenzlauer Berg, is saying something. The staff are really friendly and relaxed and can wrap up your order if you'd prefer to take away. The hard part is choosing what to have from the menu, the easy part is wiping your slate clean.

Cafe Bakermans is conveniently located, just around the corner from the Kulturbrauerei, and a short walk from the popular Kollwitzplatz with its great market.  It also makes the perfect pitstop before a day of sightseeing, with the Eberswalder Straße U-Bahnn station located a short walk away which will have you in the centre of Berlin in under 10 minutes.
