Description

On 16 April 1945, Marshal Zhukov launched the largest artillery bombardment in history against German positions 90 minutes east of Berlin. This decisive battle involved 768,000 Soviet troops and 150,000 German defenders, determining how soon Berlin would fall. Despite its significance, Seelow Heights remains relatively unknown.

While most visitors focus on the Western Front battles, the Eastern Front covers large-scale, intense fighting rarely visited by English speakers. Seelow Heights is the closest site within Germany to experience this part of World War II history.

During the tour, you will stand at Zhukov's command post on the Reitwein Spur where he observed key moments of the battle. You will walk along the German defensive lines on the Heights, see the anti-tank ditch at Sachsendorf, part of General Heinrici's layered defence strategy, and follow the route of Soviet armour through the Oderbruch kill zone. The tour includes a visit to the museum to view the Katyusha launcher and T-34 tank, and a stop at the memorial overlooking the valley of the assault.

There is also a visit to the grave of Werner Müller, a 19-year-old German soldier, who is the only individual with a marked grave among thousands in unmarked mass graves.

Your guide is a specialist military historian who provides detailed briefings during the private van drive from central Berlin and debriefs on the return trip. The group size is limited to seven guests to ensure a focused experience. Lunch is at a traditional East German village inn (not included).
