This museums aim is to help its visitors gain a better understand of the German people, the German nation, its role within Europe and its role as a member of the worldwide civilisation.
With 10,000 sqm of exhibition space spread over three floors of the Zeughaus, it contains documents, artefacts and objects from all of Germany's past. The museum is also split into seven distinct sections; 'around 1200', 'around 1500', 'around 1800', 'around 1914', 'around 1933', 'around 1945', and 'around 1989/90', each trying to act as a focal point for the import periods in Germany's and Europe's development.
The museum is open daily from 10am to 6pm and includes a shop and small refreshments bar.
