Lucia Christmas Market at the Kulturbrauerei
Berlin
The Lucia Weihnachtsmarkt ticks all the boxes: great food, tasty hot drinks, and fantastic christmas atmosphere. If you don't like crowds we suggest heading there during the week as on the weekends it gets pretty busy.
Lucia is the Nordic Goddess of Light and so naturally, this Scandinavian themed Christmas market in the Kulturbrauerei in Prenzlauer Berg is named after her.
This huge former beer brewery is a great location for some hidden away markets, which are off the street and out of the wind. A really popular spot for the locals in the family-friendly area, tourists are also seen scanning the stalls for their favourite Scandinavian treat or doing a spot of Christmas shopping amongst the crafts and wears.
These picturesque markets have an almost natural feel about them. It's a nice touch to see carved wooden figures on top of the huts, people drinking Glühwein (hot spiced wine) in a cosy tent and even a large coat rack to get warm where you climb into a suspended, cozy, fur lined suede coat that sits over a heater and warm yourself.
The kids will definitely be happy here with lots of rides catered especially for them whilst the adults can relax with a hot drink, hot food and desserts whilst keeping one eye on the little critters.
There is a cultural program every year with different events and workshops to get into, a family program on the Advent weekends and a special parade dedicated to the namesake of the Lucia Christmas Market.
The Lucia Markets are not too big that you'll get lost and not too small so you'll get bored quickly and they evoke the feeling of a traditional natural Christmas amongst family, friends, fairy lights and of course, a good hot wine.
