Directions to Komische Oper Berlin
Every year the Komische Oper holds up to 250 performances comprising of brand new productions, revivals, concerts for adults and children and other special one off events.
At this opera house, the aim is to present a versatile piece of Opera where the whole form of theatre is given a new perspective, where the familiar is turned on its head. For this reason it's no wonder that around they have around 180,000 audience members every year.
To say that this 'Comic Opera' only plays comedies is untrue, without taking their title too literally; the Komische Oper produces some fine dramatic works as well as the often odd and comedic varied repertoire. To quote the original theatres' General Director from 1905 to 1911, here you will find 'art without conventions, prejudices or artistic vanity'.
