Kosmetiksalon Bar Babette - Berlin
For a unique souvenir, ask the bartender for a copy of the booklet that was produced for the bar's 10th birthday. Its a fantastic little book which details the fascinating history of the building and includes a stack of great photos.
Equal parts bar, club and art gallery, Kosmetiksalon Bar Babette is one of the most interesting bars in Berlin; a city bursting at the seams with interesting bars. Established in 2003, for the first 4 years it didn't have a name, but was referred to by various names including "The Glass Box" or "The Cube", owing to the unique architecture of the building or simply as Bar KMA because of its address on Karl-Marx-Allee in Friedrichshain. In 2007 the bar received its current name with a nod to its original life as Cosmetic Salon Babette.
Huge windows dominate the outside walls of the building, allowing guests to sit and watch the world go by outside. On the footpath, a set of wooden chairs completes the picture and is a great place to enjoy a drink in the warmer months.
The bar is known for its constantly changing art exhibitions, some of which are painted directly onto the walls with each new work painted over the previous one. There are currently over 40 layers of art sitting on the wall!
Bar Babette is located on the former socialist boulevard Karl-Marx-Allee, right next to Schillingstraße U-Bahn station and is open from 6pm every night.
