Alexanderplatz Shopping District

Berlin

Shopping Districts

First known for the location of the Roten Rathaus Town Hall and the Fernsehturm Television Tower, Alexanderplatz has slowly been growing as one of Berlin's major shopping spots.

One of the first shopping centres to open in the square was as far back as the 19th Century, since then, the pedestrian mall has been filling up with shops and centres dedicated to helping make Berlin a shopping capital.

A large Galleria Kaufhof (Department store) is one of the first things you see when you step off the train. Across the tram tracks sits the Alexa Shopping Centre and also a huge 4 level electronics supermarket called Saturn. Many great hotels, restaurants and independent stores circle the square and fill every available shopping space. The area is also famous for its 3 Christmas markets and lots of other events throughout the year, making Alexanderplatz the place to be for tourists and locals to get out and about.
