The Catch

Berlin

Try pairing sushi with one of their specially selected sake options for a more authentic taste experience.

The Catch Berlin offers a contemporary dive into Japanese izakaya-style dining located in the charming neighborhood of Charlottenburg. Known for its modern approach to authentic Japanese cuisine, this restaurant specializes in dishes featuring high-quality fish and seafood. By importing seafood directly, The Catch ensures each bite emphasizes freshness and depth of flavor. Guests can indulge in a selection of raw delicacies like sashimi, poke, and sushi, or explore the rich tastes of dishes prepared using the robatayaki method—a traditional Japanese grilling technique that imparts a uniquely smoky flavor to meats, fish, and vegetables.

The design of The Catch draws heavily from the wabi-sabi aesthetic, a Japanese philosophy that embraces the beauty of imperfection and the passage of time. This is reflected in the use of natural materials and craft techniques such as shou sugi ban, which involves burning wood to create a textured effect, and kintsugi, a method of repairing pottery with gold. These elements blend seamlessly with modern touches inspired by urban Tokyo, such as neon lighting and manga art, providing a balanced atmosphere of tradition and modernity.

In addition to their signature dishes, The Catch offers a selection of popular Japanese fast-food items such as bowls, tempura, and karaage, allowing for a diverse culinary experience. Beverage choices are carefully curated to complement and enhance the flavors of the menu. The restaurant encourages a social dining experience, suggesting that dishes are best appreciated when shared among friends.

The Catch's intimate and thoughtfully-designed space is well-suited for small groups or couples seeking to enjoy a meal together. It provides an immersive environment that respects Japanese culinary traditions while remaining accessible to those unfamiliar with the cuisine. Nestled in Berlin’s Charlottenburg district, The Catch stands out for its dedication to offering a taste of Japan with a modern twist.

On my way to another new izakaya a bit further along this road I walked past this joint , and though it was super early ( 6pm) and there was only 2 tables on the terrace occupied - I had a good feeling and decided to abandon the other plan ( I did not make a reservation anyways) and try my luck at The Catch - after some deliberation and a promise on my side that I would be quick - I could have a table at the terrace. The food was absolutely perfect and so was the service. Loved it !

Found this place nearby our hotel. Nice ambiance, nice service, high quality food. Sashimi and ceviche were quite good. They have decently priced champagne.

I went there for dinner. I was sitting outside. The service was super friendly and nice and well trained about the menu card. They could suggest certain things to eat in general. The food was fine. Very delicious. It is nice to share the food. Kind of tapas concept to share.
