  • Lively and informative walking tour of the Parliament Quarter

Description

Our guided tour begins in front of the Federal Chancellery, opposite the Swiss Embassy. The best way to get to the meeting point is on foot from the main train station; it takes about 5 minutes. Park benches invite you to relax before the tour begins. At a place where literally radical changes have taken place over the past two centuries, we aim to provide answers to questions such as: Why does the Swiss Embassy stand here all on its own? What was it like here during the division of Germany? Where was the Victory Column located in the past? What were the plans for this location during the Nazi dictatorship? Where is the Chancellor's office, and how do you get from there to the Reichstag building? Our next walk will take you past the most important buildings of the Parliament. You will look at and inside the places where laws are made in the Bundestag. Along the way, you will learn how the Parliament works, what Berliners mean by a “senior civil service career,” where the summer interviews with top politicians take place, and why members of parliament need the Research Service. You will stroll along the waterfront promenade by the River Spree, crossing the skyline of the former Berlin Wall twice. After the walk, we will take you into the Reichstag building, all the way to the Plenary Chamber. You are now guests of the German Bundestag. All services offered by the Deutscher Bundestag are free of charge. You will then attend a lecture in the plenary chamber, which introduces the Reichstag building and the work of the members of parliament, and finally climb up to the Members' Roof. Here, you can borrow a free audioguide for your tour of the glass dome. Various languages are available. You can decide how long you want to stay – you have time to marvel at the building until late in the evening. You can leave the building on your own whenever you like. The guided tour takes place exclusively in the Parliament Quarter (outside the building) and is conducted in German, so a good command of German is required! The tour is conducted exclusively in German.
