We had a rough travel day getting to Berlin, but MASTAN was very accommodating and graciously let us move our 6:30 PM reservation to 9:30 PM. The highlight of the night was definitely the service. Our server was fantastic super knowledgeable about wines and very attentive despite us being one of the last tables. Sadly, the food didn't live up to the service or the price point. The bread was stale, the cold cuts dry, and the steak was so aggressively salted that it overwhelmed my palate and ruined the taste of my wine. When we brought it up, the staff handled it with total grace apologising genuinely and offering to re-cook the steak for us. While I wouldn't come back for the food, I’d certainly stop by again for the atmosphere, the wine, and the lovely team.
The starters were good but uneventful. The tuna tartare was flavorful but covered in fries, drowning a nicely seasoned fish 6/10. The entrees were the highlight; the veal was cooked perfectly and well seasoned 9/10; octopus and pork delicious as well. The dessert was really good the dark chocolate and the cocoa give it a thick, rich flavor. 9.5/10
Mastan might just be the most Parisian restaurant in Berlin. It's the kind of place that makes you want to slow down, order another glass, and stay until they start stacking chairs. Solo dining at the bar turned out to be the perfect way to experience it. I started with saucisson, olives and bread alongside a glass of Saint Cosme Côtes-du-Rhône 2023, and it was one of those moments where simplicity becomes a statement. Peppery, flavourful sausage, a proper baguette, briny bitter olives and a wine that tied it all together - quality ingredients doing what quality ingredients do. It's the kind of opener that reminds you how far great produce takes you. The main was the same philosophy applied to steak with béarnaise, side salad and crispy potatoes. Sounds straightforward, and it is but the execution was flawless. The meat was juicy and deeply flavourful, and even the fat trim, which I usually leave on the plate, was genuinely DELICIOUS. The béarnaise had exactly the right acidity and tarragon balance. The potatoes were crisp and properly salted. Eight out of ten restaurants serve some version of this dish. Very few nail it like this. I finished with a Jurançon - less sweet and more elegant than your typical dessert wine - followed by a double espresso and a small calvados. Unhurried, indulgent, exactly right. The service has a distinct French quality to it, staff switching between French among themselves and accented English with guests. It adds to the atmosphere rather than detracting from it and the attention was warm without being intrusive. The room itself is intimate and genuinely romantic - there are outdoor tables that looked equally charming - but the bar works brilliantly for solo dining too. If I lived in Berlin, I'd be a regular. Since I don't, I'll be back the next time I'm in town regardless. For anyone who appreciates classical French cooking done without shortcuts, Mastan earns every visit. Compliments to the management, the service staff and the chefs.
Great french cuisine. Service is little longer but it’s fine. You can just sip wine in between.
One of the best dinner experiences I have had in Berlin. Everything was outstanding. We live in the neighbourhood and have passed by several times, and it always caught our attention because of both the food offering and the pleasant atmosphere. Yesterday we finally went there for a special occasion and it even exceeded our highest expectations. Every dish we tried was absolutely delicious. I believe there are no wrong choices. Whatever you order from the menu will deliver. We will definitely be coming back, also because I learned that the menu changes quite often. Special mention to the staff. The service was excellent, very attentive and professional, while still being warm and friendly.
