世界で最も多くの種類の動物（約1,500種類の19,500頭）を持つベルリン動物園。1844年に設立され、ベルリンの西部のティーアガルテンに位置し、ドイツ最古の動物園でもあります。年間約300万人の来場者がおり、ヨーロッパで最も訪れられる動物園として、世界でも最も人気のある動物園の一つです。
ほとんどの動物は、できるだけ元の生息地を再現したエンクロージャーに収容されており、動物園はさまざまな大学、研究所、国際機関と協力しており、希少で絶滅の危機に瀕した種の飼育プログラムをいくつか維持しています。

また、水族館もあり、3階に9000頭以上の動物が展示されており、魚以外にも多くの両生類や爬虫類がいます。
