Description

Travel by regional train from Berlin to Fürstenberg/Havel, a spa town about one hour away, to explore Ravensbrück, a key site of remembrance for tens of thousands of imprisoned women, including approximately 30,000 who were killed.

The tour begins near the former commandant’s villa and continues through the former camp’s roll-call square, barracks sites, and essential structures like sanitary and disinfection facilities. You will witness remnants and views that illustrate the camp’s vast scale, which held up to 50,000 female prisoners at its peak.

The visit includes entry to the detention prison used for solitary confinement, the Wall of Nations, and the monument “The Bearing” honoring Olga Benario-Prestes. Key sites such as the shooting wall and original crematorium provide sobering evidence of mass murder. The tour also covers the lives of female camp guards and their fates after the war.

After the guided portion, you will have approximately 60 minutes for independent exploration at the former camp headquarters, now a museum and documentation center, before returning to Berlin Central Station by train.
