Description
Join a 75-minute drawing workshop at Maansi Jain’s studio in Berlin-Friedrichshain and explore how a wandering line can become an intricate image. Designed for non-artists, visitors, and curious groups, this session uses simple materials and clear prompts to make drawing feel approachable, open-ended, and rewarding. The emphasis is on observation, interpretation, and playful transformation rather than technical perfection. The workshop begins with a welcome, a short introduction, and an example of the process. Participants start by drawing one long line that changes direction whenever they feel like turning. More lines are then added so they cross and form enclosed shapes across the page. At each sharp intersection, participants round the corners to create softer junctions and a more connected visual rhythm. In the next stage, selected enclosed areas are colored with colored pencils or watercolor, while others are deliberately left empty to create contrast and structure. As the drawing develops, participants may interpret the final network as a map, a nervous system, a city, a conversation, or a weather pattern. The group then shares and reflects on the finished works before cleanup. This workshop is inspired by the visual method often called neurographic drawing and is presented purely as an art exercise, with no medical or psychological claims. The activity finishes with a short reflection in the studio. Jain has guest lectured at New York University Steinhardt School of Art, NYU Tandon School of Engineering, and has more than two decades of pedagogical experience.Includes
