Description
Dive into the vibrant world of Congolese cuisine with this hands-on cooking class in Berlin, led by Bijoux, a passionate chef who brings the flavors of Central Africa to life. In this immersive experience, you’ll learn to prepare a traditional three-course menu centered around Fumbwa—an iron-rich leafy vegetable enjoyed across Central Africa and known for its unique, spinach-like taste. Bijoux will guide you through every step, sharing stories and culinary secrets passed down from her grandmother.
Your culinary journey begins with an introduction to Fumbwa, also called Oko or Eru, and its importance in Congolese culture. You’ll prepare Fumbwa combined with peanut butter, palm oil, and baked fish, creating a dish that’s both hearty and full of flavor. The menu also features Makemba (fried plantains), Kwanga (cassava bread), and Mikate (sweet dough balls). Throughout the class, you’ll enjoy a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, with plenty of opportunities to ask questions and learn about the origins and preparation of each dish.
Drinks such as water, Congolese Fanta, African beer, and African white wine are available to complement your meal. The class is suitable for all skill levels, from beginners to seasoned home cooks, and is designed for small groups to ensure a personal experience. At the end of the session, you’ll sit down together to enjoy the meal you’ve created, leaving with new skills, recipes, and a deeper appreciation for Congolese food culture. The class takes place in a cozy kitchen in Berlin-Friedrichshain, or can be arranged at your chosen location for private groups or team events.
