Description
The Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart is Berlin’s leading museum for contemporary art, located in the historic Hamburger Bahnhof, a former railway station. The museum covers over 30,000 square meters, including the Rieckhallen and landscaped gardens, and was declared a monument in 2023.
Inside, you will find a diverse collection reflecting Berlin’s art scene from reunification in 1989 to the present. The collection includes masterpieces from artists such as Andy Warhol, Joseph Beuys, and Cy Twombly. Highlights include over 450 drawings by Beuys and nearly 60 works by Warhol, alongside pieces by Richard Long, Gerhard Merz, and Dan Flavin.
The museum hosts up to 10 special exhibitions each year, presenting contemporary artistic perspectives worldwide. Visitors can also join daily guided tours, participate in workshops, attend live performances, and engage in talks. The visit can be extended with a walk through the tranquil gardens or participation in the museum’s programs.
