Industry, history and a new beginning – discover a Berlin that hardly anyone knows. Away from the well-known landmarks, a fascinating piece of Berlin history awaits you: Oberschöneweide. Once one of the most modern industrial centers in Europe, today it is a district in transitioning between past and future. On this guided tour, you will explore impressive brick factories, learn more about the visions of Emil Rathenau, and immerse yourself in the everyday life of workers around 1900. Along the River Spree, you will discover how closely industry, transportation, and urban development were connected. A special highlight is the Funkhaus Nalepastraße – the former center of GDR broadcasting. Here you will learn how media, politics, and culture were intertwined. Today, Oberschöneweide is an exciting place of change: Universities, artists, and start-ups are revitalizing the old industrial facilities. This tour combines history with current issues and offers you an authentic view of an often overlooked Berlin. We start our journey through time at Wilhelminenhofstraße 75 A (directly at the entrance of HTW Berlin), then it takes us past the AEG site and along the banks of the Spree, ending at the Funkhaus (Nalepastraße 18). It lasts 2 hours in total.
