This guided tour traces the story of Berlin's division and explores the lifestyle of East Berliners during the GDR era. Following World War II, Berlin was divided by the Wall in 1961, creating distinct social and economic conditions on each side.
Your experience begins at Potsdamer Platz, after which you take the S-Bahn to Nordbahnhof, a former ghost station closed for nearly 30 years following the Wall's construction. At the Berlin Wall Memorial on Bernauer Strasse, see original parts of the death strip and hear accounts of escape attempts and the lives lost during the division.
At Alexanderplatz, surrounded by socialist architecture, understand the significance of peaceful demonstrations against the STASI’s repression that contributed to the Wall's fall and the Soviet bloc’s end.
The tour ends at the East Side Gallery, featuring 104 murals, including the well-known Brezhnev-Honecker kiss, providing insight into East Berlin’s post-war history and socialist reality through expert local guides.
