Description
Step into Maansi Jain’s studio in Berlin-Friedrichshain for a 75-minute art workshop designed for non-artists, curious visitors, and small groups. This session uses ordinary drawing materials, simple rules, and a clear structure to help participants experiment freely without worrying about technical skill or perfect results. The focus is on noticing, playing, and discovering how quickly marks, gestures, and chance can become an artwork. The workshop begins with a welcome, a short introduction, and an example of the exercise. Participants then tape paper to the table, hold one drawing tool in each hand, and begin to scribble with both hands at the same time. The first phase explores symmetrical movement, followed by more independent mark-making. After the initial drawing, the page is rotated and observed from different angles to notice unexpected shapes, rhythms, and possible images emerging from the lines. In the second part of the session, participants add only a small number of marks to reveal what they see, without erasing the original movement. The group then shares, arranges, or informally installs the finished works before closing with reflection and cleanup. Throughout the session, the process encourages curiosity over control, helping participants notice how instinct, rhythm, and interpretation shape an image. The activity finishes with a short group reflection in the studio. Jain has guest lectured at New York University Steinhardt School of Art, NYU Tandon School of Engineering, and has more than two decades of pedagogical experience.Includes
