Description
Discover Berlin beyond the Third Reich and the Cold War Berlin's history is much more than the events of the 20th century! But often the focus is on the Third Reich and the Cold War, while the city's earlier history is largely ignored.
On this tour, you will learn exciting stories about the medieval twin cities of Berlin and Cölln, the first cathedral, the Elector 'Iron Tooth,' the 'Berlin Unwillingness,' the unique Dying Warriors, the Gray Monastery, the Cross of Atonement, Berlin's only preserved dance of death, the Prussian salon ladies, and much more.
Officially, Berlin's history dates back 'only' to 1237, making it one of the youngest capitals in Europe. Many older neighborhoods were not rebuilt after the destruction of World War II. Instead, modern new buildings and urban highways were constructed, causing numerous historical traces to be lost.
But they still exist – and archaeological excavations in recent years have brought some evidence of the city's early history back to light. On this tour, you will join an experienced guide on a search for traces of Berlin's origins and discover details that are often overlooked in the hustle and bustle of the modern metropolis.
The tour starts at the Klosterstraße underground station and ends at the Brandenburg Gate. It is aimed at anyone who wants to discover the hidden sides of Berlin – whether as a visitor or a local who wants to experience their city from a new perspective.
