Description

This private tour of Berlin’s Museum Island, a UNESCO World Heritage site, offers a guided walk and introductory visits inside three key museums. It suits visitors interested in art, history, and architecture.

The tour begins at the Bode Museum, located at the northern end of the island. Here, you will learn about the museum’s imperial origins while exploring highlights including the James Simon Cabinet and the building’s grand entrance hall.

Walking across Museum Island, your guide will explain the development of this cultural quarter—from its 19th-century origins, through wartime damage, to modern reconstruction. Passing the Pergamon Museum, you will visit the Pergamon Panorama, gaining insight into the ancient Greek origins of the Pergamon Altar, while the main museum is closed for renovations.

Next, the tour continues at the Altes Museum, where you will tour the monumental rotunda, a classical space central to Museum Island’s original concept. Passing the Alte Nationalgalerie, you will learn about 19th-century German and European art and its connection to national identity.

The final museum visit is at the Neues Museum, restored in 2009 by David Chipperfield. This museum combines old and new architectural elements and houses key treasures like the Bust of Nefertiti along with ancient Egyptian and prehistoric collections.

These 45-minute guided visits provide context to the architecture, history, and collections, laying a solid foundation for further museum exploration. The tour concludes at the James Simon Gallery, where you can take a coffee or lunch break.

Your ticket grants full-day access to all museums on Museum Island. The tour is adaptable before and during the visit, including the selection and number of museums you prefer. An expert Spanish-speaking guide is available on request.

Note that the tour cannot be booked on Mondays and is subject to museum closures on some bank holidays.
