At the DDR Museum, history is tangible and accessible. The museum features reconstructed East German apartments filled with authentic products from the DDR period. Unlike traditional museums, items are not behind glass but available to touch, open, and explore.
Visitors can climb into an original Trabant car, turn the ignition, and hear the typical engine sounds as part of a simulated journey through prefabricated housing districts. The exhibition includes a typical DDR living-room with a Karat wall cupboard, spices on the shelf, and a pressure cooker on the stove.
The museum also offers immersive experiences such as watching East German news reports from original cinema seats and listening to Lipsi, East Germany's version of rock-and-roll music.
