Immerse yourself in a special city tour of Berlin that takes you to places where silent heroes saved Jewish fellow citizens during the Nazi era. Amidst persecution, fear, and hatred, there were people who refused to look away—people who helped even though they themselves were in danger. At the beginning of the tour, we will welcome you at a central meeting point in Berlin-Mitte. After a brief introduction to the historical background, we will embark on a walking tour that will take you to original locations. You will learn about courageous women and men who, out of charity, religious conviction, or human conscience, hid Jewish people, cared for them, or saved them from deportation. One of the stops tells the extraordinary story of Dr. Mohammed Helmy, an Egyptian doctor who was the first Arab to be honored by Yad Vashem as 'Righteous Among the Nations.' Other stations are dedicated to the Quakers who saved Jewish children in Berlin and enabled them to leave the country and find protection through courageous aid networks. The focus is also on women who hid the future showmaster Hans Rosenthal – silent lifesavers without whose civil courage his later career would never have been possible. You will also encounter the fates of Jehovah's Witnesses who helped Jewish friends despite being persecuted themselves, as well as neighbors, doctors, pastors, and strangers who showed humanity in dark times. You will stand at doors, in backyards, and in front of memorial plaques—places that seem inconspicuous today but were once scenes of great moral courage. The tour is accompanied by impressive quotes, archive material, and space for questions and discussion. Your guide will lead you through this moving history with sensitivity and background knowledge, without pathos but with palpable depth. At the end, you will not only have seen places, but above all, you will have gotten to know people who show that even in the darkest times, there were rays of hope.
