The kappa beef here was absolutely delicious! The beef was tender, flavorful, and perfectly spiced, while the kappa was soft and well-cooked with an authentic Kerala taste. If you are looking for a close to home (or close to India) flavours with a German fine-dining twist, this South Indian restaurant has to be your new hang! I am from the North of India and dosas, even the ones I was introduced to in Delhi, feel like a diasporic endeavor. The good ones like those at the Carnatic cafe in Delhi are ones I often return to. I have no way of comparing them to historicity of homemade dosas but the ones at Carnatic cafe evoke a similar feeling. Benne’s in Berlin is a close second, and i’ll be visiting often!
We recently visited Benne Berlin, and the experience was surprisingly good. We tried their Paneer Biryani, which came beautifully served with a chapati-style cover on top - a really unique touch! The biryani was fresh, flavourful, and the paneer was soft with perfectly balanced spices. For starters, we ordered cutlets and onion pakoras. Both were crispy, hot, and tasted very homely, just like proper Indian snacks. The portion size was also generous, which we really appreciated. The restaurant has a calm vibe and the staff were polite and friendly. Overall, it's a great spot in Berlin to enjoy real Indian flavours.
