We were exploring the area, which has a fascinating and atmospheric character, and decided to stop at this bar. Unlike most other places we had visited in the city, it had a door attendant. The woman at the entrance looked us up and down, asked us several questions and eventually allowed us into the premises. Inside, there were clear signs stating that photography was not permitted there. We bought our drinks, sat outside and enjoyed the graffiti, the surroundings and the atmosphere of the warm evening. While sitting at our table, we took a few personal photos of each other and the outdoor setting. As we were leaving, the woman at the gate rushed over, grabbed me by the arm and began accusing us of ignoring her instructions not to take photographs. Her younger male colleague then launched into a lengthy lecture about how people come there simply to drink and talk in peace, and asked how we would feel if other people took pictures around us. I was genuinely surprised by the situation. Nobody had told us that photography was also prohibited outside, and there were no signs or other indications making this clear. We were not photographing other customers deliberately, but simply taking ordinary personal photos of ourselves and the surroundings. The place itself has plenty of character and could offer a wonderfully relaxed and distinctive experience. However, if the aim is to maintain an open-minded and alternative atmosphere, it may be worth considering whether publicly lecturing customers and physically grabbing them is really the best approach. Clear communication, basic courtesy and a more relaxed attitude would probably contribute far more to the atmosphere the venue seems to be trying to create.
Great place for an affordable drink. A little refuge in this overcrowded, overtouristic, overpriced Berlin area! Bring your cash, this place is old school and doesn't take cards. There is a wide selection of drinks including alcohol free ones and don't let the punky vibe of the place scare you away, they have perfectly clean toilets! ^^
Awesome place to have a few drinks
Service was a bit slow. Beer and wine menu was a little limited. A lot of different cocktail options, but you come to this place for the vibes. Very strange, eclectic, monster themed/hidden away garden. A great place to sit down have a drink and ponder, the weird things of life.
