HELLAS FILMBOX BERLIN
is a greek film festival. It was founded in the spring of 2015 in order to put the most up-to-date and artistically extremely exciting film making in Greece into the focus of the German public. The medium of film, like no other, is ideally suited to contribute to broadening the viewpoint of Greek culture as a whole.
HELLAS FILMBOX BERLIN wants to be a platform especially for the 'New Greek Film' and to provide cinematic insights into the present situation of Greece, its people, insights into its inner contradictions and secrets. The country - seen through the eyes of its filmmakers - will be decidedly differently, more directly and intensively experienced than by most representations in the German media. Greek film has much more to offer than German daily journalism. Therefore, it is a special concern of the HELLAS FILMBOX BERLIN to show and promote extraordinary and novel films from the fields of art, animation and experimental with disciplines such as 'New Visions'.
According to Asteris Kutulas (founder of the German-Greek Cultural Association e.V. and festival director), 'we want to tackle the emotional and political gaps between Greece and Germany in order to stimulate constructive reactions to the current conflict between the two countries. Opinions (almost always) diverge on film, and that is the best prerequisite for controversial discussions. 'Sandra von Ruffin, actress and deputy director of the festival, adds:' Film is a universal, interconnected and at the same time contentious medium. It influences the dreams, longings and fears of the people. It is highly effective. This is true of Greek films as well as everyone else. Above all, we want to reach the German audience with our festival program and reveal to viewers the very own view of Greek filmmakers on the human soul. '
