Bau1haus - Die Moderne in der Welt.

Photography exhibition

Wednesday 16 January to Thursday 14 March at 12:00 until 18:00
Berlin Stresemannstraße 28, Berlin Kreuzberg

One hundred years after the founding of the Bauhaus, probably the most popular and at the same time most controversial art school in Weimar, the Friends of the Willy-Brandt-Haus show the traces of architectural modernism worldwide in an exhibition.

Modern life breaks after 1918 railway. The needs of people for light and air, for residential and urban hygiene, the use of new materials such as concrete, steel and glass as well as innovative design principles such as functionality ('form follows the function') and organic trends in building, leading to the classical modernity in architecture The use of historical forms is rejected.

Photographer Jean Molitor has been touring Europe, Africa, Asia, America and the Middle East since 2009. All over the world, he finds the heirs of the Bauhaus - be it in Berlin or Casablanca, Stuttgart or Havana, St. Petersburg or Guatemala City, Vienna or Bukavu in the Congo.

Jean Molitor studied artistic photography at the Leipzig Academy of Visual Arts under Arno Fischer. Since 1994 he is a freelance photographer for magazines, newspapers and industry. In 2009 he started his project bau1haus.
Whole generations have been confronted and socialized with the objective-sober and functional Bauhaus architecture. The pioneer, companion and heir to modernity unites an architectural language that is generally understood with the term Bauhaus. For the art project bau1haus, the aesthetics of the buildings is a central element of an epoch-making movement in architecture, art and design, which leads from Art Nouveau to modern times.
