As much as the outside of Alcatraz Hostel is an exciting assault on the eyes with the colourful graffiti covering nearly every free space, the inside is just as cool, but comfortable and cozy as well.
With 24 hour reception and no lock out curfew, reception also sells bus tickets and has a bike rental, multilingual staff plus free luggage storage and lockers, so you're pretty much set!
At only €11 for a dorm bed or €17 for a private room, Alcatraz is very affordable, especially with all the perks. Breakfast is one of the cheapest in local accommodation at only €3.80 per person. You can also organise a late check out at 1pm (great if you've been out late for your last night in Berlin!) and very Wednesday you can join in a free Vegetarian home cooked dinner, as long as you help with the cooking.
Prenzlauerberg is a great area with lots of cool shops and hidden away cafes to find your perfect coffee. Mauerpark and its Sunday flea market is a short walk away and you'll find more gems where you can eat drink and shop on Kastanienallee.
